Bangladesh Overview

Bangladesh is a country in South Asia bordering India to the west, north, and east, Myanmar to the southeast, and the Bay of Bengal to the south. It is separated from Nepal and Bhutan by the Siliguri Corridor, and from China by Sikkim (in India) in the north, respectively. Bangladesh stretches over an area of 148,560 square kilometers accommodating approx. 163 million people which makes it the 8th most populous country in the world. 98% population of Bangladesh are Bengalis largely following Islam which makes it the 3rd largest Muslim-majority country. Dhaka is the capital and also the largest city known for its flourishing economy, politics and culture. Chittagong is the largest seaport and the 2nd largest city of the country. The climate is tropical with mild winter (11^oC - 23^oC) from October to March, hot and humid summer (30^oC - 40^oC) from March to June followed by rainy season from June through mid-October. Bangladesh is rich in flora & fauna and is particularly known for the Royal Bengal Tiger. An emerging economy in the world leading in growth and having Asia’s fastest real GDP growth rate which ranks 2nd in Asia only after India. It takes approx. 1 hour from Kolkata to Bangladesh by flight. Bangladesh is 30 minutes ahead of India. Waterways is very well developed. With 8,046 kms (5,000 miles) of navigable waters, Bangladesh has one of the largest inland waterway networks in the world.

Eligibility criteria for admission of Indian students

Rules for admission of Foreign Students MBBS course under SAARC Quota in Government/Private Medical of Bangladesh.

The student must have completed 17 years of age on or before 31st December of the year of admission.
The student must have completed class 10th/SSC/O Level or any equivalent board examination successfully not before 4 years prior to the admission scoring with minimum GPA-3 (approx 50%-60%), top 5 subjects combined, for seat in foreign quota in private medical college and GPA- 5 (approx 95%), top 5 subjects combined, for seat in SAARC quota in government medical college.
The student must have completed class 12th/HSC/A Level or any equivalent board examination not before 2 years prior to the admission in science stream scoring (combined marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology) with minimum GPA-3 (approx 50%-60%) for seat in foreign quota in private medical college and GPA- 5 (approx 95%) for seat in SAARC quota in government medical college. Qualifying Grade in each subject individually is “C”.
The student must have at class 12th/HSC/A Level or any equivalent board examination in Biology, scored minimum GPA-3.5 (Marks- 60) for seat in foreign quota in private medical college and GPA-5 (Marks- 95) for seat under SAARC quota in government medical college.
The student must have scored minimum GPA-7 (approx 60%) combined in class 10th/SSC/O Level or equivalent board examination and class 12th/HSC/A Level or equivalent board examination for seat in foreign quota in private medical college and GPA- 10 (approx 95%) for seat under SAARC quota in government medical college.
The student must have qualified NEET UG Examination in the same year of admission or in any of the previous 2 years.

Ans.: There is no difference between MBBS degree from India and Bangladesh. The only factor that matters is that the college should be recognised by BM&DC (Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council) and NMC (National Medical Commission).

Q. 02. Are universities in Bangladesh recognised by NMC?

Ans.: Yes, universities in Bangladesh are recognised by NMC. It is very important to opt for NMC recognised universities, because after completing MBBS it is mandatory to clear FMGE/NEXT for getting license to practice or for pursuing higher studies in India.

Q. 07. Does bank provide educational loan in Bangladesh?

Ans.: As per RBI regulations, any Indian student who wishes to study in Bangladesh can apply for a bank loan. Banks do not finance the entire course amount but supports the major part and the remaining will have to be taken care by their parents. Banks may finance up to INR 20 lakh but for the amount over and above INR 7.5 lakh banks may ask for collateral/deposit money margin or seek 3^rd party guarantee.

Q. 08. What is GPA and how to Calculate GPA?

Ans: GPA stands for Grade Point Average. As the name says it is the average of all the points scored in the grade. In Bangladesh students are not given number but are given GPA which is a range of marks. To know your GPA, contact MCF Eduaid helpline.

Q. 09. What is the right time to contact for MBBS admission?

Ans: Admission starts after Class 12^th/NEET examination with processes like seat booking, issuing admission letter, paying booking money to college account, etc.

Q. 10. What is NEXT?

Ans: National Exit Test (NEXT) is a common final year examination (which will be implemented in the coming days), for the undergraduate MBBS students of Indian colleges. Clearing NEXT would qualify them to register in State or Central Level Council. It was introduced by The National Medical Commission, Bill 2019. Currently Foreign Medical Graduates are required to pass Foreign Medical Graduates Examination (FMGE) which enables them to get the license to practice in India or pursue any post-graduation medical course. Implementation of NEXT will also serve as Screening Test for MBBS Students from abroad. NEXT will be common for medical students from India as well as from Foreign Medical Colleges. Student can appear multiple times for clearing FMGE/NEXT exam as there is not limit in the number of attempts.

Ans: Fees of Medical Colleges are payable in US Dollar by forex company/bank through TT (Telegramic Transfer). Documents required during payment of fees are college admission letter, valid student passport/ passport application, student pan card and pan card of the person who will transfer the money to the college. All transactions are processed through parents/student’s bank account to college account only.

Q. 13: What is the mode of travel?

Ans: Flights, Trains and Buses are frequent from India to Bangladesh on daily basis. Most of the major cities in India are connected to Bangladesh by air.

Q. 14. What is time and cost of travel?

Ans: Travelling time differs on the mode of transport. Flight takes around 45 minuites (Kol- Dhaka) while trains and buses would take 13-14 hours.

Q. 15. What is the dress code for MBBS?

Ans: There is no dress code as such. Students can wear formals like- jeans, salwar or anything they prefer but white apron is mandatory.

Q. 16. Is MBBS in Bangladesh expensive?

Ans: Bangladesh is cheaper than any Private Medical College in India though curriculums are the same. If compared then fees in Bangladesh is 1/4^th to that in India. The overall Cost of Living which includes travel, food and other things are cheaper in Bangladesh.

Q. 17. What are the yearly vacations and it’s duration?

Ans: There are usually 2 vacations both in Eid’s (20-25 days Eid al-Fitr and 10-15 days Eid al-Adha). They are long vacation after every professional exam. So, students can visit their hometown during these times.

Ans: Students are required to visit the embassy with all necessary documents (MCF Eduaid will prepare the documents) for- Student Visa as well as for guardians-Tourist Visa.
